How does drainage work on a bocce court?

Good bocce drainage is engineered, not visible. The crushed stone base acts as a French drain that moves water laterally and vertically out of the court, and the court is built with a roughly 1% cross-slope that sheds surface water to the sides — imperceptible during play. On heavy Georgia clay or a high water table, perforated drain pipe is installed in the base and routed to a daylight outlet. Properly built courts are playable within hours of heavy rain.
