FAQ · Bocce Courts

Do I need a weed barrier under a bocce court?

    Quick answer

Yes - woven filtration fabric under the base stops weeds and keeps base fines out of the soil.

Woven geotextile filtration fabric is installed directly over the compacted subgrade, before drain rock. It blocks weeds from pushing up through the playing surface, which is the number one maintenance complaint on courts built without it, and it keeps base fines from washing into the native soil and creating settlement. Overlap seams 6-12 in and order about 10% more than the court square footage. On wooded or rural Georgia lots we also add galvanized gopher control wire at the subgrade.
